  • OVERVIEW

GM Zambia Safaris is a hunting/marketing company owned and run by Greg Michelson. Greg was born in Zimbabwe, Africa, and has been a full time Professional Hunter since 1986. 37 seasons guiding big game hunters from all over the world has led Greg to be rated as one of the most experienced professional hunters in Africa. He has hunted Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique extensively and is presently based in Zambia.

    AREAS

Representing top shelf concessions in both the Luangwa and Kafue areas of Zambia. These concessions consist of both government GMA’s (game management areas) and large private land blocks.

All areas are serviced by high quality tented and hard thatch under brick camps. Generators and solar power systems are used for electricity, lighting and refrigeration purposes.

     LUANGWA VALLEY

We represent and hunt some of the finest concessions in the Luangwa Valley.

The Luangwa is world renowned for its fabulous hunting, especially for buffalo, lion, leopard, hippo, crocodile and a variety of plainsgame including Roan antelope.

Late season hunts also offer opportunities for good size elephant trophies.

We are also hunting some large private land hunting blocks that offer excellent opportunities for most Luangwa species.

Species available - Luangwa areas – Baboon,  Buffalo, Bushbuck( Chobe), Bushpig, Crocodile, Duiker(Common), Elephant, Grysbok(Sharpes), Hartebeest(Lichtenstein), Hippo, Hyena, Impala, Kudu, Leopard, Lion, Puku, Roan, Warthog, Waterbuck(Common), Wildebeest(Cooksons), Zebra.

    KAFUE

Namwala is especially known for its great leopard and sable hunting. Namwala also has good opportunities for hunting buffalo, lion, hippo and huge crocodiles. The area also offers fair chase hunting for a variety of trophy quality plainsgame species.

Besides Namwala we are also able to offer excellent hunting for Sitatunga, Buffalo, Sable and other prime species in some Western and Northern Kafue game management areas that bound onto the Kafue National Park and the Kafue wetland swamp regions.

  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    Hunting season

The Zambian hunting season runs from the beginning of May to the end of November. This is mostly the dry season in Zambia. Temperatures vary during the dry season in both the Kafue and the Luangwa from cold to mild in June and July, to hot from mid - September onward.

We do however consider May through to end of October to be our prime hunting months. October has excellent hunting, although the temperatures can be high and in mid-November the punctual rains halt the opportunities of trouble free hunting.

    Health

An anti-malarial course should be taken three weeks prior to arrival in Zambia and terminated six weeks after your return. We suggest that you consult your doctor regarding the prophylactics required. Please ensure that we are informed before your arrival about any health or dietary needs. It is highly recommended that all clients should have an international travel and health insurance plan which would include evacuation out of the safari area, and Zambia should an emergency situation arise.

    Firearms

    • We recommend that all clients bring a minimum caliber of .375 or more for larger dangerous game (buffalo and Lion) and a .300 Win Mag. or similar caliber rifle for plains game species. A good quality variable scope preferably with red dot illumination is recommended for rifles – especially where cats will be hunted in low light conditions.
    • Importation of ammunition into Zambia is regulated to 100 rounds per rifle and 200 rounds per shotgun.
    • Firearm import permits must be obtained before your arrival. Our company offices handle these applications and it is imperative to ensure we are supplied well in advance of the correct make and serial numbers of the rifles you will be using. Errors on the firearm permit will lead to refusal of temporary import of firearms by the Zambian Authorities. The amount of ammunition stipulated on the permit may not be varied once the license is issued.

    Bookings and Payments

    • A deposit of 50% of the total daily fees is required to confirm your hunt. The balance of the daily rate should be received at least 30 days prior to commencement date of the hunt.
    • Deposits for cancelled hunts are liable for forfeiture if the hunt cannot be re-booked.
    • All trophy fees and additional costs are payable on completion of the Safari.
    • PLEASE NOTE: Only US$ cash is accepted for payments due at the conclusion of the hunt. Telegraphic transfers can be made prior to the start of the hunt to pre –pay trophy fees and extras. This will avoid traveling with large sums of cash.
    • Bank charges on all telegraphic transfer shall be for the clients account.
    • All fees/charges quoted are subject to change without notice.
    • Trophy fees are charged as per current pricelist applicable for the year the hunt is conducted
    • Please note that travel days used for movement between hunting areas are counted as hunting days, and that any client accommodation required in lodging other than the hunting area hunting camp/s during the safari will be for the clients account.
